House y home no expresan exactamente lo mismo
House describe normalmente el edificio. Home es el lugar donde una persona vive y con el que se identifica; puede ser una casa, un piso u otro espacio. Por eso se dice I’m going home sin to, pero I’m going to my house cuando se menciona el edificio o la propiedad.
They bought a small house near the coast.
Compraron una casa pequeña cerca de la costa.
It’s late. I’m going home.
Es tarde. Me voy a casa.
Plantas, habitaciones y tareas domésticas

Furniture, housework y electrodomésticos
Furniture y housework son incontables. Se dice some furniture y a piece of furniture, no furnitures. Para tareas domésticas, usa combinaciones como do the housework, do the laundry, vacuum the floor y take out the rubbish.

Errores comunes
Incorrecto: I bought new furnitures.
Correcto: I bought new furniture.
Furniture es incontable; para contar piezas se usa a piece of furniture.
Incorrecto: My home has three rooms si quieres decir dormitorios.
Más preciso: My home has three bedrooms.
Room es cualquier habitación; bedroom identifica el dormitorio.
Incorrecto: Open the light.
Correcto: Turn on the light.
Con luces y aparatos se usan turn on y turn off.

Preguntas frecuentes
¿Cuál es la diferencia entre house y home?
House suele referirse al edificio; home al lugar donde vives o con el que tienes un vínculo. Por eso se dice go home, sin to.
¿Furniture tiene plural?
Normalmente no. Usa some furniture, two pieces of furniture o el nombre concreto: two chairs.
¿Room significa siempre habitación?
Puede ser una estancia concreta, pero también espacio disponible: There isn’t enough room significa “no hay suficiente espacio”.
